Letter From the Former Editor

Monday, January 25th, 2010

To all of you at Manhattanville, I wish you a happy new year and a happy new semester. I am writing this as a final farewell to my days as Editor-in-Chief as I am now a Manhattanville Alum. As you will notice, the new Editor-in-Chief is Monique Hardy. I entrust this paper and your following to her for she is someone that I am sure is most capable to perserve and run this paper. So please look to her for continuing Right World View’s rich tradition.

There are some happy changes that Right World View is pleased to present with our brand new and improved website. It is up and running with constant updates. Feel free to go on Mville.RightWorldView.com and comment as you wish!

It has been a pleasure to serve this paper for the past three years as both a writer and then, an Editor-in-Chief. I am most proud of my work and those that I have worked with. It has been the best experience in my years at Manhattanville and I am confident that the tradition and committment to an open exchange of ideas will be something that will live on with Right World View. I am sure that Right World View will strive to be the very best that it can while maintaing it’s integrity and it’s quality. I know that Monique Hardy will do a great job of continuing this paper’s tradition and making it even better than I did!
Right World View has remained strong and vigilant despite the many attempts to subdue our voices by both administration and organizations on campus. Right World View will continue to fight for the right to express the opinions of those who are willing participants. Having the right to express our opinions was so important that our founding fathers put it in the Constitution as our first amendment. It is that right that Right World View observes and continues to protect.

So as I say my final farewells, I entreat you all to continue your support for Right World View by simply just picking up an issue. Remember that as always, Right World View is here to serve you and is happy to have your voices expressed as well. So if you want to join or have any questions,
contact Monique Hardy directly at Mville@RightWorldView.com. So good luck to you all on a brand new year and a brand new semester! Also, remember to check out the new website at Mville.RightWorldView.com!!! Farewell, Manhattanville!

Untitled

Monday, November 30th, 2009

A pool of tears locked in the center
Feelings of blackness surrounding the air
The sky is dark and the grass is wet
No one sees where the path starts or ends
No one sees one another standing in front or behind
We are blinded by the shadows we have made
No matches left to light the way

Therein Lies Man

Monday, November 30th, 2009

Therein lies the skin of man

Skin of the light
Skin of the dark
Skin of the protector
Skin of the protected

Therein lies the blood of man

Blood of a good man
Blood of an evil man
Blood of the creator
Blood of the created

Therein lies the heart of man

Heart of the good deeds
Heart of the evildoer
Heart of the lover
Heart of the loved

Therein lies the soul of man

Soul of the life
Soul of the dead
Soul of the giver
Soul of the gifted

Therein lies man

White House Security Has Been Breached!

Monday, November 30th, 2009

On November 24th, President Barack Obama hosted his first State dinner party. A couple, Michaele and Tareq Salahi, breached what should have been a highly private event with security and guest lists. This couple not only managed to get pass security but also managed to shake hands with the President of the United States himself. This occurrence has definitely caused uproar in our nation and has raised many questions of security.

The question that remains: how did this couple manage to get pass security and the Secret Service, as they were not on the guest list? This occurrence really makes people really wonder if this couple who did not intend any harm could pass security and get within arms length of our president, then it is quite possible that a dubious person who could intend harm could potentially accomplish the same. Also, there is the question of who really is to blame. The couple did breach security but it is obvious that the security was not quite so secure if this couple managed to easily breach it.

Not only did this couple breach security, they are now possibly going to be charged for their act as should be expected. However, I do wonder why they were not charged or arrested sooner. Also, if this couple’s act wasn’t bad enough, they are also now trying to sell their story for a rather handsome profit. Though I favor free speech and it would make sense that they share their story, is it not pushing a line to sell this story to the mass media for the entire world to know? What happened to keeping security of the President? Should the story be revealed, would others not try to see if they could do the same? President Obama’s security men and Secret Servicemen best improve on the security they are providing, as it would not do any good to have security if it is so easy to breach. This is not a good message to potentially send to the world or to our country. Citizens want to know that our country is safe and the safety of our president would do better to ensure that.

Our country and the citizens will hope to see this matter not only resolved in terms of how the couple will be sanctioned but also in terms of improving security. If we can’t trust Secret Service, who are sworn to President the President, to do their jobs, how can expect other law enforcement officials to not follow that suit. Granted this might be going a bit far but honestly, if the White House can be breached easily, it leaves an uneasiness of what else can be breached!

Should the Healthcare Overhaul Pass in the Senate?: Left View

Monday, November 30th, 2009

Yes! Once again, this healthcare system that Obama wishes to pass will be a beneficial system. The House of Representatives have passed the bill so now; it’s time to get the Senate on board. This bill still raises a lot of controversy as to how current insurances will work under this system. Citizens can be assured that it will not affect their current insurances, as they will be able to keep their private insurance should they choose. The major change will be the option that will be available to those who are not insured and to those who are insured but seek a better policy. Though there are concerns over the amount of money being spent for this bill, the end results may just justify the means. After all, if we can save money in the long run, then it seems as though this would prove to be beneficial.

So let’s embrace this change! Other countries have universal healthcare. It’s time we join those countries in embracing this very socialist idea. This could help save lives of those who are less fortunate and cannot afford decent healthcare or any healthcare at all.

Letter From the Editor

Monday, November 30th, 2009

Dear Manhattanville Students, Faculty, and Staff,

I hope you all had a terrific Thanksgiving break and filled up on some good home cooking! As we move towards the last few weeks of the semester, we are doing our best to wrap up this semester at Right World View while we hope that all of you are gearing up to finish this semester without too much trouble.

On a more official note, I am both happy and sad to announce that the next issue will be my last issue as the Editor-in-Chief of Right World View. I am graduating early but fear not, I will be leaving Right World View in very capable hands. Look for the announcement and my last letter from the editor in the next issue!

Here at Right World View, we wish you a happy reading and best wishes in the last few weeks of this semester. Remember, when the going gets tough, the tough get going! So get going on the work and studying but don’t forget to take a break and read our issue!

Sincerely,

Diana Shprekher

Editor-in-Chief

The Shattered Reflection of the Monster Inside

Monday, November 9th, 2009

The reflection on the mirror
Shows a shattered vision
Of lies and deception
How do we run from it all?
It shows a black face
A face of evil
I can’t understand what it’s saying
A night of passion and desires
Shows the blackness within
The beast shows his face
For the world to see
A monster is among us all
Lurking beneath the shadows
We fear it
We despise it
We loathe it
For it is the worst evil that exists
It kills those that stand in its way
It destroys anything in its path
It corrupts the minds of the young and old
Who is it?
It is invisible
No one can see it
It doesn’t have a real name
It is named by false dreams and hopes
It is the image that we fear
You can’t destroy it
It lives forever
It lives in the heart of mankind
Guess what it is
Pride
